At the Davao airport, Sekkingstad was welcomed by Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Eric Forner.
Sekkingstad was released by the Abu Sayyaf Group to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Patikul, Sulu on Saturday afternoon after almost a year in captivity.
From Patikul, Dureza brought Sekkingstad to a military camp in Jolo and then to Davao City.
Also accompanied by Dureza from Sulu were three Indonesian sailors, who were also released by the bandit group to the MNLF on Saturday night.
Sekkingstad was taken by bandits from Samal Island in September 2015, along with two Canadian nationals and a Filipina.
